Kim,

> Just wanted to point out that CardSpace runs nicely on XP

Thanks for your comment. I'm aware of this and that Simon Willison made an error in his presentation, saying that Vista is required. I thought it was important and mentioned it to several people in the hope it could be corrected from the stage, but I don't think it was.

I did also note the error in another blog post:

http://www.itwriting.com/blog/?p=137

Now I'm digesting your post on OpenID and DNS. Interesting.

Hi Tim - interesting stuff.

I'm Chief Architect for Identity at Microsoft and one of the people behind CardSpace. Just wanted to point out that CardSpace runs nicely on XP and can be downloaded now.

It's true we need to make progress on how we can "get it out there" on XP.

All the best,

Kim

Tim,

Glad to hear that TJ's talk peaked your interest. If you ever need a deeper dive just let us know.

As for TJ on the business side of the equation, I am not sure exactly what he said (unfortunately I was unable to attend), but I know that it is a difficult thing to explain in the short amount of time he had. Briefly speaking there are several different models that we can use to generate revenue - ad, subscription, usual sales methods, partner and reseller channels, technology licensing. And the multiplying factor is our product lines - online, server, desktop, portable. The beauty of it is that we are not relying on a single source of revenue. The hard part, from a marketing standpoint, is knowing where to prioritize our marketing dollars. Since this is such a new area it is hard to tell which product/revenue model will take off the fastest.

If you have any advice we would love to hear it.

> There’s always a certain amount of cross-company migration

Yes, I should have mentioned that Mark Anders was there talking about Flex and Apollo, he is formerly of Microsoft of course.

Hi Tim, thanks for the write-up. I think you can get info on that eBay project today with search term "ebay apollo 'san dimas'"... team lead Alan Lewis may already have some screenshots in the public realm.

When Adobe and Macromedia joined together, most of the "shake-out" was in administrative departments (finance, HR, PR), but most technical people were retained. This occurred quite some time ago, though, back at the end of 2005.

There's always a certain amount of cross-company migration, but Microsoft is investing heavily now, for access to certain communities. That's between them and their shareholders, I guess. ;-)

(That multiplatform JIT compiler in Adobe Flash Player 9 is contained within the 1.3 megabyte standard download, which is being added to over five million additional desktops each day.)
