I've been using Windows Live Writer since the beta debuted in August, and generally love it. Like you, I've griped about other-than-US spell checks, but other than that, it gives me a great way to write blog posts when I'm offline and to have a consistent blogging interface across multiple blogging platforms even when I'm online. I have seen performance problems, however, when it comes to posting; not sure if the problem is with Live Writer or my particular ISP.
