Last laptop I had, I bought brand new 6 years ago, it had xp, and when I took it out of the box, after charging it, I was online and typing on word in less than an hour. This is why I hate Vista.

I know this is an old post, but this subject is close to the top of my list of annoyances.

The amount of stuff that comes preinstalled on both desktop and laptop PCs now is ridiculous. Like you, I uninstall most of it.

Agree on the wireless connectivity software - I have yet to find any that is better than Windows' own solution, so it gets disabled / uninstalled.

Antivir is excellent free antivirus, by the way.

Sure, I don't blame Toshiba or Microsoft for SP1; and updates are an inherent problem that every OS has to deal with.

Only one reboot would be bliss.

Should have gone with.. oh, sorry. With an Apple you have a fair amount of downloading software updates, but usually only one reboot (you hope). The big thing that you don't worry about is AV.

And of course installing SP1 is equivalent to installing Leopard over Tiger (OSX 10.4 -> 10.5) so yours is slightly unusual.
