I have always found advertising to be a waste of time. Do the work. Rank on top of Google. And then if you truly need to advertise, go through private advertising on a fairly popular website. That's way better than PPC any day.

Ask for the publisher, AdSense is almost a waste of time also. I am way more into Private Advertising and Pay Per Post than I am AdSense. (Probably because I am not making too much on AdSense right now, but even so)

<blockquote>
I read an SEO article last year (can’t find it - sorry) *advising* adsense advertisers to deliberately *choose* parking sites and sites that only have links. (I think that since then google have removed the ‘advertise on this site’ functionality.)
</blockquote>

It has a kind of logic, and Strahl mentions this too, but was any evidence given? For example, did someone track the links from parking sites and find that they generated more sales?

Strahl reckons people will click anything just to get off the parking site.

It may vary according to what kind of product you are selling.

The logic was that these sites *only* have links on them, so it is the only useful content. People who arrive on these sites are much more likely to be searching for something and more likely to follow adverts...

Not only that, but those sites were the cheapest to place ads on.

I agree that link fraud is a problem. Google acted to reduce that (allegedly) by making only the text of text-ads clickable rather than the whole ad block.

I wonder if advertisers are seeing less click-throughs as a result (and what *should* be *better* click-throughs)?

As an ad hoster (on Voidspace) I've seen my income drop by abvout a third (due to less clicks - not less per click) - which tallies with the figures I've seen around the web.
