header and footer

Hi all,
Is there a way to remove the header and footer? IE, the page numbers and site name? I think this might have something to do with the print templates I've read a little about. Does someone know where I could look at a few examples? I've read this is also the way to printing landscape without prompting the user at print preview time.

Things are starting to make sense after reading up about print templates. However, whenever I write one, it never prints. I'm thoroughly frustrated, and can't figure out why.
