I removed the code because it was not secure. The other problem is that you really need spam protection to run a guestbook successfully - a CAPTCHA image or some alternative method. In the innocent days of 2000, when the code was first posted, this wasn't a problem. So I'd honestly recommend you look elsewhere, though I can dig it out if anyone *really* wants to look at it.

I can't access the code either.

I'm new to the whole code writing and although I'm learning stuff as I go along, there isn't like an idiots guide for coding a guestbook.

I'd be greatful if anyone can help me.

You are welcome. As I mentioned, you should check the code for security issues.

Guestbooks are vulnerable to comment spam. I highly recommend that you implement some sort of captcha test otherwise it will be overrun.

Thanks for the guestbook code. I have been trying for weeks to write a code but mine is proving very difficult. To the extend I now have an incomplete in the wed design course. I will try yours hope it will work for me if you do not mind .

Thank you for a really clear article in this months copy of PCW. I've set up
PHP4, Apache and MySQL on Windows 98 machine. Will be setting tommorow.
Then upload to web site.

Recently set up a dedicated PC for Linux so will test on that to.

Editing of HTML within the browser

Hi,

I read the article in PCW Dec 2000 regarding the use of the IE browser to edit html.

This was a very interesting article as the same morning I had been trying to get to grips with the DHTML Editing SDK with little success.

The problem I have is that I am trying to buile a small Intranet application that enables the user to edit some HTML held in a database. The application is a simple newsfeed that takes a subject, author, date released, date expires and the content. The news application itself works but I cannot get the browser to load the content, enable the editing and finally post the data back to be processed.

Question 1.
Is it possible !

Question 2.
How can I get the browser to load HTML from a database ?

Question 3.
Can anyone get the SDK Menu and toolbars to work ?

Thats enough babbling. If you have any Ideas I would be gratefull for some guidance.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you couldn't edit common.php? What happened when you tried to edit it?

I have to admit, this online Phorum is on BSD and the other one I have set up is on Linux. However, if both PHP and your database connection is working, I don't see why it shouldn't go OK on Windows.

Tried installing phorum on localhost under windows95 with MySQL, php3 and Apache (all previously installed and working).
Couldn't edit the common.php file to point to configuration directory. Any ideas?
