The Linux Foundation oversees over 150 open source projects, including Linux, Kubernetes, Let\u2019s Encrypt, Cloud Foundry and Cloud Native Computing Foundation, and has over 1320 members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-21.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image_thumb-21.png\" width=\"654\" height=\"437\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has been a member for several years, but has now also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openinventionnetwork.com\/pressrelease_details\/?id=89\" target=\"_blank\">signed up<\/a> to the Open Invention Network (OIN), promising patent non-aggression to other licensees. It is a significant move which has boosted both the OIN and the Linux Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image_thumb-22.png\" width=\"654\" height=\"437\" \/><\/a><em>     <br \/>Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin<\/em> <\/p>\n<p>Keith Bergelt,, CEO of OIN, took the stage to congratulate Microsoft on \u201cfacing the reality of the world as it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another important recent event is the <a href=\"https:\/\/lore.kernel.org\/lkml\/CA+55aFy+Hv9O5citAawS+mVZO+ywCKd9NQ2wxUmGsz9ZJzqgJQ@mail.gmail.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> by Linus Torvalds, in which he apologises for brusque behaviour and says he is taking some time off Linux kernel development:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI need to change some of my behavior, and I want to apologize to the people that my personal behavior hurt and possibly drove away from kernel development entirely. I am going to take time off and get some assistance on how to understand people\u2019s emotions and respond appropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What are the implications for Linux?
