{"id":230,"date":"2007-05-25T12:32:09","date_gmt":"2007-05-25T11:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/?p=230"},"modified":"2007-05-25T12:32:09","modified_gmt":"2007-05-25T11:32:09","slug":"microsoft-pdc-postponed-due-to-lack-of-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/230-microsoft-pdc-postponed-due-to-lack-of-content.html","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft PDC postponed due to lack of content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft&#8217;s Professional Developers Conference, which was to take place in October,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/msdn2.microsoft.com\/en-us\/events\/bb288534.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">has been postponed<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The stated reason is that the conference, which is meant to be focused on futures,&nbsp;would have been too late for the current round of developer releases:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>By this fall, however, upcoming platform technologies including Windows Server 2008, SQL Server codenamed \u201cKatmai,\u201d Visual Studio codenamed \u201cOrcas\u201d and Silverlight will already be in developers\u2019 hands and approaching launch.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The implication is that PDC would also have been <strong>too early<\/strong> for the next round of platform updates.<\/p>\n<p>There are other conferences you can attend for a Microsoft fix. There&#8217;s another problem though: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mseventseurope.com\/TechEd\/07\/Developers\/Pages\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Tech-Ed developer in Europe<\/a> conflicts with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.devconnections.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">DevConnections in Las Vegas<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; and key speakers like Scott Guthrie and Tom Rizzo are already announced for DevConnections.<\/p>\n<p>I tend to agree about PDC. Talking futures is not what Microsoft needs at the moment. Getting developers to engage with the current crop (WPF, Silverlight) is more to the point.<\/p>\n<p>As for me, my next dev conferences are in London: <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/events\/developerday\/\">Google Developer Day<\/a> followed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobelive.co.uk\/developer.asp\">Adobe Live\/Adobe Developer Day<\/a>.
