{"id":2434,"date":"2013-10-03T22:31:17","date_gmt":"2013-10-03T22:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gadgets.itwriting.com\/?p=2434"},"modified":"2013-10-03T22:31:17","modified_gmt":"2013-10-03T22:31:17","slug":"sunspider-javascript-benchmark-on-4-models-of-microsoft-surface","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/2434-sunspider-javascript-benchmark-on-4-models-of-microsoft-surface.html","title":{"rendered":"Sunspider JavaScript Benchmark on 4 models of Microsoft Surface"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I got my first sight of Microsoft\u2019s new models of Surface, its Windows tablet, on display at the Microsoft Store in Bellevue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gadgets.itwriting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/gadgets.itwriting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"342\"><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I ran the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webkit.org\/perf\/sunspider\/sunspider.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sunspider JavaScript benchmark<\/a> on the new models, and then on the old ones for comparison.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surface RT 1.0: 922ms<\/li>\n<li>Surface 2.0 (RT): 397ms<\/li>\n<li>Surface Pro: 127ms<\/li>\n<li>Surface Pro 2.: 114ms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No surprises; but what this confirms is that Surface 2.0 RT, which has an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset, is substantially faster than the earlier Tegra 3 model; whereas Surface Pro which has an updated Intel Core i5 processor is only a little faster on this particular test.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is attempting to continue selling Surface RT alongside Surface 2.0 RT, at $349 vs $449 for the 32GB model.
