If niche player <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dataviz.com\/products\/documentstogo\/index.html\">DocumentsToGo<\/a> can implement this feature, is it so hard for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openoffice.org\/\">Open Office<\/a>? I doubt it. Now, I am sure that any such feature would not be perfect &#8211; but import\/export features never are. Equally, I&#8217;d expect that it would work fine with the vast majority of documents that people email back and forth every day.<\/p>\n<p>See also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/?p=313\">A Plague on both your houses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>PS Microsoft could also do a much better job with ODF import\/export. These problems are more political than technical.<\/p>\n<p>Update: note that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/wiki.services.openoffice.org\/wiki\/Features\">according to this document<\/a> &#8220;Office 12 import&#8221; is planned for the 3.0 release of Open Office, which is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/wiki.services.openoffice.org\/wiki\/OOoRelease30\">due in September 2008<\/a>.
