I presume he means the feedback forum <a href=\"http:\/\/dotnet.uservoice.com\/forums\/4325-silverlight-feature-suggestions\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. But look what the top request is \u2013 as noted by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/3471-silverlight-5-unveiled-more-power-more-windows.html\/comment-page-1#comment-331413\">comment<\/a> to yesterday\u2019s post:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"image\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"421\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Looking at the comments, Android is a common request, and relatively easy for Microsoft to achieve given the open nature of that platform.<\/p>\n<p>This was apparently not part of the 70% though. Instead, Guthrie introduced more Windows-only features \u2013 showing that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2009\/11\/20\/silverlight_4_windows_bias\/\" target=\"_blank\">concerns<\/a> about divergence between Windows and Mac implementations when Microsoft announced COM support at the 2009 PDC were justified.<\/p>\n<p>What if Microsoft had purchased Novell, or purchased Mono from Novell, instead of letting it go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.attachmate.com\/Press\/PressReleases\/nov-22-2010.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Attachmate<\/a>? It would have enabled Microsoft to unify the Windows and Linux implementations as well as building on the work the Mono team has done on compilation for iOS.<\/p>\n<p>That <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/3391-microsofts-silverlight-dream-is-over.html\">dream is over<\/a> though; the Silverlight application strategy seems focused on making it better for Windows-platform corporations. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the things mentioned by Microsoft VP Scott Guthrie in his Firestarter keynote yesterday was that Silverlight 5, the new version set for release in 2011, implements some 70% of what users have voted for.
