Martin Fowler and Jim Webber debunk middleware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Entertaining session to close a slightly disappointing first day at <a href=\"http:\/\/jaoo.dk\/london-2008\/conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">Qcon<\/a> in London. <a href=\"http:\/\/martinfowler.com\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Fowler<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/jim.webber.name\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Webber<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thoughtworks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ThoughtWorks<\/a> discussed the history of application integration: how to get diverse applications on diverse platforms talking to each other and sharing data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tibco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">TIBCO<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn2.microsoft.com\/en-us\/biztalk\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">BizTalk<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmethods.com\" target=\"_blank\">webMethods<\/a>, you name it, &#8220;they&#8217;re a pain in the neck to use&#8221;, said Webber.<\/p>\n<p>Enterprise Service Bus? Should be called the &#8220;Erroneous Spaghetti Box&#8221;. SOA? &#8220;A dog&#8217;s breakfast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Fowler and Webber, the Web is the answer. &#8220;The dumbness of the internet is a real win&#8230;it allows you to do things that you did not think of.&#8221; The Web is ubiquitous middleware, incremental and low risk.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.squid-cache.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Squid<\/a> is your Enterprise Bus &#8230; We&#8217;re not going to need all this crazy middleware that middleware vendors try to sell us. We don&#8217;t like ESBs &#8230; The big up-front middleware approach just isn&#8217;t very sensible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Right or wrong?
