Note the tiles, the typography, the horizontal scrolling, the way elements stand out against a pale background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/image52.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/image_thumb52.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The BBC site is the 5th most popular in the UK and 47th in the world according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alexa.com\/siteinfo\/bbc.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Alexa<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>This strikes me as a significant design win for Microsoft. One of the goals of redesigns is to make your stuff look fresh and modern, while other stuff looks dated, and it helps drive an upgrade cycle.&#160; <\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: amended to clarify that the design update was last year.
