{"id":69,"date":"2006-12-04T13:55:34","date_gmt":"2006-12-04T12:55:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/?p=69"},"modified":"2006-12-04T13:55:34","modified_gmt":"2006-12-04T12:55:34","slug":"a-simple-blog-reader-for-the-ie7-common-feed-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/69-a-simple-blog-reader-for-the-ie7-common-feed-list.html","title":{"rendered":"A simple blog reader for the IE7 common feed list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Readers of this blog will know of my dissatisfaction with both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/?p=24\" target=\"_blank\">IE7 feed reader<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/?p=54\" target=\"_blank\">RSS integration in Outlook 2007<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve now posted the (VB.NET) code for my quick-and-dirty solution, the Hands On Common Feed List Reader.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/images\/handsonblogreader.gif\"> &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What problems does this solve? Mainly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It allows me to browse through blogs by item and not by feed<\/li>\n<li>It reads the feed list directly instead of Outlook&#8217;s misguided synchronization efforts<\/li>\n<li>It gives me a quick view of all unread items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just to be clear, this is a reader for the IE7 common feed list. You still need to subscribe and unsubscribe using IE7. Lots of features could be added, but for now this works for me; however fixes and improvements are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Download the code <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/pcw\/handsonfeedreader.zip\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More on how this is put together in the February 2007 issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcw.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Personal Computer World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone would like just the executable, let me know and I&#8217;ll make a quick setup.
