It is based on the excellent JetBrains <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jetbrains.com\/idea\/\">IntelliJ IDEA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can get Android Studio <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.android.com\/sdk\/index.html\">here<\/a>. It is now the official Android IDE and developers using Eclipse are encouraged to migrate \u2013 like it or not.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key features is a new build system based on Gradle. Another notable features is a visual layout designer; you can toggle between visual and text modes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image_thumb3.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Presumably one reason for Google developing its own Android IDE is to integrate more tightly with its cloud services. There is a Google Cloud Module on offer in the IDE.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image_thumb4.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Android development has its hassles. I seem to spend far too much time in the Android SDK Manager downloading new versions of the SDK, which is frequently updated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itwriting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/image_thumb5.png\" width=\"404\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another annoyance is that the Intel Emulator Accelerator (HAXM) is incompatible with Hyper-V, the official Windows hypervisor. You either have to uninstall Hyper-V,&#160; or put up with a slow emulator.
