Forthcoming Events
Conferences of interest to developers. If you think your event should be listed here, by all means contact me; but note that this list is short and selective rather than comprehensive.
2013
International CES Las Vegas January 8-11
Not a developer event, but handy for tracking what is happening in mobile, graphics technology and other areas.
Mobile World Congress Barcelona February 25-28
Big event in the world of mobile. Watch for announcements from the major players. First event in new larger conference center, Fira Gran Via.
QCon London 6-8 March
With a focus on Enterprise development, what makes this conference special is its cross-platform, cross-language breadth – though there is an Agile flavour to much of the content – and the consistently high quality of the speakers. Themes include Big Data and NoSQL, handheld banking apps, next generation mobile and open source in hardware and software.
NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference San Jose March 18-21
How is NVIDIA responding to Intel’s move into accelerator boards? Latest in GPU computing and NVIDIA’s CUDA C.
EclipseCon Boston, MA March 25-28
Get up to speed on the many projects overseen by the Eclipse Foundation for its tools platform, including the web tools, C/C++ IDE, Java, Android, OSGi, Eclipse RCP and more.
Infosecurity Europe 2013 Earls Court London 23-25 April
What’s what in IT security
Past events
Worth checking past events as many are annual and will roll around again at a similar time.
2010
Microsoft Tech-Ed New Orleans June 7-10
Mainly focused on IT admins but some developer content. Traditionally Tech-Ed concentrates on stuff you can use now or very soon, leaving PDC for more future-oriented content.
Apple Worldwide Developers Conference San Francisco June 7-11
Learn about Apple’s platform, these days with more focus on iPhone and Ipad than the Mac.
O’Reily OSCON – Open Source Convention Portland, Oregon July 19-23
Wide range of open source developement topics, some focus on cloud computing at this event. Strong speakers.
VMWorld 2010 San Francisco Aug 31-Sept 2
Everything virtualised from the market leader; admin rather than development but still a key topic for both on-premise and, increasingly, cloud computing.
Intel Developer Forum San Francisco Sept 13-15
Everything Intel.
Intel AppUp Elements 2010 San Francisco Sept 15-16
Developer conference for Intel’s mobile platform
JavaOne and Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco Sept 19-23
The big official Java event, now also an Oracle event.
NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference San Jose Sept 20-23
Latest in GPU computing including coding for DirectX, OpenGL, and NVIDIA’s CUDA C.
JAX 2010 London Sept 27-29
Java and Agile conference – unlike QCon this is purely focused on Java
Flash on the Beach 2010 Brighton Sept 26-29
Workshops on web design especially Adobe Flash, excellent speakers.
JAOO Aarhus, Denmark Oct 4-6
Software development conference with a superb line-up of speakers: some that caught my eye are Bill Buxton from Microsoft, Dan Ingalls of Smalltalk fame, James Gosling of Java fame, Rod Johnson of Spring fame, and Tim Bray of XML fame. There’s an Agile flavour and I also spotted several Thoughtworks folk including Martin Fowler.
Future of Web Apps London Oct 4-6 2010
Usually some excellent speakers at this event. Founder Ryan Carson is focused on ideas and tips for startups, but a wide range of topics is covered with perhaps a leaning towards open source. Shame it clashes with JAOO this year.
Qt Developer Days Munich Oct 11-13 2010
