Ways to use a wiki

Posted 4494 days ago on August 24, 2005

Wikis have been slow to take off (the idea is 10 years old) but usage is now growing fast. I enjoyed the variety in this list of user stories for DokuWiki. The ideas include everything from system documentation to a recipe database. Many of the examples are individuals who find the wiki approach ideal for organizing personal notes and ideas; one is an book author who uses it to show the relationships between his fictional characters.

Thought: why doesn't Apple or Microsoft build a personal wiki into the OS? Sharepoint is almost there, but it's server-based and depends on other applications like Word. Similarly OneNote has some of the same ideas, but there's no version history or internal hyperlinks.
